One great lie

One great lie that I’ve too often heard and read is the exhortation: “find your passion and you’ll never work a day in your life”.

I used to think that we had one passion in life, and spent frustrated years looking for mine. I finally realised that few of us have just one passion, and that our passions and priorities can change in phases, as we do.

Few of us find our passion straight off and carry it through life. Or if we do, we find that friends, family, and school don’t encourage us in it or that it’s hard to make a living at it. So we give up and people please, doing what we’re encouraged to do or what we’re good at, or what looks most likely to earn our living.

But sooner or later, that gnawing discomfort starts to grow, leading to quiet quitting, frustration, disconnection, alienation, and even burnout.

And you’re left feeling like you’re on the wrong express train and you HAVE to get off.

That sense of desperation can leave you questioning yourself and everyone around you- partner, family, colleagues, your profession. Is it you? Is it them?  Is it menopause?

And yet, whatever your age, you may wonder if it’s too late to change, and whether the changes that you are contemplating are the right one. I believe we all have several valid potential paths within us at any stage of our lives, but it can take some support to really tease out our options.

So, what does the you that you’ve become really want TODAY? Not necessarily for the rest of your life, just for the next step?
